Includes family papers, 1852-1913, primarily legal documents and a few letters. Organizational and administrative records include annual reports, 1949-1972 (with gaps); and legal records. Executive papers contain correspondence and subject files, 1930's-1970's, especially about J.P. Stevens plants in the South. Many papers are from Robert T. Stevens, some of which relate to his testimony in the McCarthy hearings. Executive materials are also present from James D. Finley, head of cotton sales, president and chairman of the board; William T. Stockton, comptroller; and Ward Burns, assistant comptroller, comptroller, and president. Also includes finance reports, 1946-1985; commission notebooks, 1900-1941; advertising materials; an employee handbook, 1965; and materials from the Forstmann Woolen Co., 1905-1944; Carter Fabrics Corp., 1945; and Slater Manufacturing Co., 1945.
